Caring For Your Old Dog

Our animals are members of our family. We love them dearly. We have fond memories with them. The unfortunate truth is that one day our beloved animals will eventually pass away. We want to extend their lives and we want to give them the most comfortable lives in their old age. It is possible to provide your old dog with the care, comfort and nutrition they need to live long and happy lives.

Boost Immunity

Dogs need protection from diseases in their old age. You can accomplish this by boosting their immunity. Omega 3, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Sea Kelp is a powerful combination that boosts immunity, aids thyroid function, improves metabolism and provides longevity. There are helpful daily supplements and natural chews you can give to your dog as tasty treats. Fish oil is a strong contributor to dog anti-aging. Fish Oil supplements have the perfect mixture of EPA (180 mg) and DHA (120 mg) fatty acid supplements. These are recommended as part of a healthy senior dog nutritional plan.

Alleviate Pain

If your dog led an active life they are going to need a little help to alleviate any pain associated with old hips and joints. It is not uncommon for a senior dog to have arthritis, hip dysplasia, loss of energy and playfulness. You can put the pep back in their step with dog supplements that contain glucosamine chondroitin and turmeric. Glucosamine Chondroitin is helpful for stiff joints, tight muscles and pain reduction. Turmeric works as an anti-inflammatory loosening stiffness and reducing pain associated with inflamed joints, muscles and the gastrointestinal tract. The combination together works best.

Convenience and Ease

It may be more difficult for your old dog to get around like they used to. Accidents may increase because they cannot make it to the bathroom on time for their daily walks. If you haven’t already, install a doggy door for them to come and go as they please when needing to urinate or defecate. You can teach old dogs to use wee-wee pads so they can safely do their business in the house if you are not home. Move their food and water bowls closer to the spot they like to rest. It is beneficial to keep your dogs active and moving around but it is better to not put too much strain on their joints and muscles if unnecessary. If you are worried about weak muscles, weight gain or bladder control, consider cranberry dog supplements and dog multivitamin soft chews added to their diet.

Checkups

Schedule monthly checkups for your dog at their veterinarian to be sure everything is running smoothly. Vets may have additional recommendations and they will be able to spot anything more serious that can be taken care of before the problem gets out of hand.

The thought of our dog passing away can be unbearable. It is a natural part of life but we can do everything in our power to be sure they have a wonderful life in their old age. Routine veterinary checkups, proper supplements, senior dog chow and lots of love will give your dog the long and healthy life they deserve!
